Joint path and spectrum diversity in cognitive radio ad-hoc networks
نویسندگان
چکیده
The uncertain availability of the spectral resource imposes unique challenges in cognitive radio networks. One of the critical issues is to counteract the performance degradation experienced by cognitive users (CUs) due to the activity of primary users (PUs). Since the activity of PUs varies both in frequency and space domain, diversity techniques can represent an efficient way to address this issue. In this article, it is proposed to jointly exploit path and spectrum diversity for effective use of spectrum in cognitive radio ad-hoc networks (CRAHNs). By jointly exploiting both the diversities, CUs can switch dynamically to different paths and spectrum bands for communicating with each other in presence of frequencyand space-varying PU activity. This idea is adopted in a routing protocol, referred to as Dual Diversity Cognitive Ad-hoc Routing Protocol, and simulation results reveal the effectiveness of introducing joint path and spectrum diversity in CRAHNs.

متن کاملReactive routing for mobile cognitive radio ad hoc networks
Although more than a decade has passed from the proposal of the Cognitive Radio paradigm, in these years the research has mainly focused on physical and medium access issues, and few recent works focused on the problem of routing in cognitive networks. This paper addresses such a problem by evaluating the feasibility of reactive routing for mobile cognitive radio ad hoc networks. More specifica...
متن کاملAttack-Aware Cooperative Spectrum Sensing in Cognitive Radio Networks under Byzantine Attack
Cooperative Spectrum Sensing (CSS) is an effective approach to overcome the impact of multi-path fading and shadowing issues. The reliability of CSS can be severely degraded under Byzantine attack, which may be caused by either malfunctioning sensing terminals or malicious nodes. Almost, the previous studies have not analyzed and considered the attack in their models. The present study introduc...

Cognitive Radio (CR) is a new paradigm which offers a viable solution to deal with the spectrum shortage problem and enhances the spectrum utilization in wireless communication systems. In Cognitive Radio Ad Hoc Networks (CRAHNs), data routing is one of the most challenging tasks due to varying link-quality, frequent topology changes and intermittent connectivity caused by the activities of Pri...
متن کاملLink Availability Prediction for Cognitive Radio Ad Hoc Networks
One critical issue for routing in cognitive radio ad hoc networks (CRAHNs) is how to select a reliable path for forwarding traffic. This is because mobility may cause radio links to break frequently. The reliability of a path depends on the availability of those links that constitutes the path. In this letter, we present a novel approach to predict the probability of the availability of the lin...
